I’m having the same issue, but with ProCamera and with the browser version of iNaturalist (Firefox 155.0.1 on Mac, Tahoe 26.6.2). I can see the date and time when I open the photos in Photos on my phone (iPhone 13 mini, iOS 26.6.1) download the images to my computer, and the date and time show up in Finder, but when I upload them to iNaturalist, there’s no date or time on any of them. Same when I upload images from my camera – they show up on the Mac with a date and time, but not in iNaturalist. I hate having to manually add the date and time for everything. Photos taken on the phone also show the GPS location only a minority of the time.
Edit: On the phone, ProCamera has access to location while using, and so does Photos.
We don’t have any control over ProCamera or other camera or OS software, so I don’t think this is a bug on iNat’s end, although it could be.
I take most of my photos with mirrorless cameras and have used all manner of software to edit and export them, them post them to iNat via the web uploader in Firefox. I have not tried ProCamera, though.
I suspect the issue is not necessarily iNat-related, but it would be helpful if you could email some of these photos from your computer to help@inaturalist.org. The best way to do this would be via Google Drive, Dropbox, or some other third party file server, as attaching photos to emails often strips them of their metadata. I can then test it out.
Also, how exactly are you getting your photos to your computer? Oftentimes, metadata can be stripped or messed up when moving or exporting photo files.
I’m using ProCamera on my iPhone only and uploading them to iNat in two ways, both of which omit the date and time: 1. directly to iNat via the iNat app from my camera roll and 2. airdropping them to my Mac, cropping in Preview, then uploading. These are JPEGs.
NB I have used the same technique for iPhone photos for years and the date and time have disappeared only in the past month or so.
Re: mirrorless, my mirrorless camera is new so I may be doing something weird, but photos I take with it also are stripped of the date and time when I upload them to iNat. I take the photos as RAW, open them in the software that came with the camera (OM Workspace, OM System [formerly Olympus]'s proprietary photo editor) to convert them to JPEG, and, if I edit the JPEGs, I use Preview on the Mac. The JPEGs on the Mac have the correct dates and times associated with them. Again, they disappear when I upload them to iNat.
