Oops, something went wrong here, worst thing, it flew away after this photograph (its supposed to be a common species in India, but I have never seen it after this). Still Research Grade here.
Here’s the artistic shadow of a Common Jay (top right corner), observation here: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/263723938, (I haven’t uploaded this picture there, I got a better one which is still pretty bad, check it out)…
These moments happen
I can’t help that he moved so quickly! It’s his own fault I cut off his head! And I don’t think he overly cares :)
She was too quick for me
And there is a very interesting insect on the flower that could be the main focus!
Yes, a sun moth https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/293610410
That’s interesting! But I thought that for something to be research grade, it had to be down to the species or subspecies. It seems this is at the genus.
Anything subfamily and below can become RG if you check the box
Oh, okay, that makes sense, I guess. Thanks!
Using video and then finding good frames for screenshots really helps…
Haha, that’s what I used to do to make sure I didn’t miss the bird I was trying to catch on camera. It made for some very interesting moments, and there were a few times I was actually glad I videoed for the video :)
I really like that one, whatever it is. (So many of these are great! Such a diversity of ways a shot can be bad. Impressive, too, what terrible photos can be identified, in some cases.)
Some sort of kingfisher?
To be fair, I did actually get a photo before it took off: https://inaturalist.ala.org.au/observations/304208453 . But I quite liked the effect here!
And yes, a fascinating number of ways things can go wrong.
Yes, in the kingfisher family - though I kind of forget that because they’re rarely as obviously blue as that one looks. And I’m not used to kingfishers singing/laughing!
