Polygonum aviculare complex

I am not an curator, but I was determining an Polygonum species in more detail and I found a lot of stuff about the species P. arenastrum and P. aviculare. Sometimes like here (https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/91833225) it is easy to say it is P. arenastrum and not P aviculare s. str… But in other cases like here (https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/64282321) in my case it is not easy for me to say it is P arenastrum or P. aviculare and I think also for others it will not…
Actually what I want to discuss is that we should use the P. aviculare complex label for these cases but I can’t find this label. How could we / can I create a label like this? I have no knowledge of Polygonum, so I can’t comment there. However, I think general procedure would be to make a flag on the taxon/taxa and initiate a discussion with curators there while including your reasoning and resources. If it seems like adding a complex is a good choice, then curators may be able to add it.

There are also lots of other forum posts on species complexes that may be worth checking out:

Looks like you’ve got a flag started here: https://www.inaturalist.org/flags/542794, so I’ll close this topic and we can focus the conversation in one place. Thanks!
