I view the daisies and violets in lawns as weeds – unintended invaders of the cultivated grass space. The grass itself should probably be considered cultivated, but usually I just mark it Poaceae and if it ever gets a second ID, “No, its the best it can be.” Perhaps I should be more proactive with the grass, mark it cultivated.
I think it depends on the lawn. My house was built on former agricultural land, and I think the first owners just started mowing whatever grew around the house. It was never sodded, I don’t have a monoculture, and any grasses I have are a mix of natives and weeds. They’re short, but they weren’t planted.
True. (I was thinking of the bluegrass lawns around schools.)
