# Question about an observation

I’m not sure if this is a bug or if I just don’t understand exactly how this works, but I wanted to ask shouldn’t this observation change to the species which it has been identified as and become research grade instead of staying at the higher taxonomic level? - [https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/129185447](https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/129185447)

An identification needs \>2/3 of the identifications to match to reach Research Grade (or move taxonomic levels). Right now, exactly 2/3 are in agreement at species, so a 4th identification at the same species level would be needed to push it to Research Grade.
