Travelling last summer in North / South America, I was very conscious of being out of my comfort zone compared to Europe when it came to flora and fauna to be wary of…
In Canada I was unable to tell what was poison ivy, poison oak, etc… so ended up not being able to touch leaves to get shots/look underneath as I often would in Europe.
Are there any particular plants to be wary of touching in India?
And any particular fauna to avoid getting close to ( other than obvious threats… like snakes and and scorpions and tigers haha )
Also, how risky is it to be out and about with expensive camera equipment on show? (e.g. in parks in Delhi )
It looks like I will be in Delhi, Landour and Darjeeling.
Be good to have a broader topic about safe-inatting in different countries in general!
But I guess that would be too much information for one thread…
seems like someone could make a project that has plants that folks may want to avoid touching due to chemical reactions (as opposed to physical things like thorns). it could cover the whole world, and then you could look for observations in your area of interest to see which species show up there.
i guess it would take some judgment to separate things you definitely don’t want to touch vs things that you could touch in some cases. for example, not everyone is allergic to poison ivy, but it’s still probably best to avoid touching in case you end up developing an allergy.
Your list shows us that. Mangifera is the mango – some people do get a poison ivy-like reaction (or so I am told), but most can handle and eat the fruits with no problems. Pastinaca sativa is the parsnip.
