For this reason. I have stopped using the new app, and gone back to the old one.
I routinely upload photos on iNaturalist from my phone. I am also concerned that I cannot upload more than one photo of each specimen. It is my habit to take multiple pictures to make it easier to identify. This is especially true with arthropods where different shots show mouthparts, antennae, eyes, etc. I hope this issue can be corrected.
you can definitely upload more than one photo of each specimen
if you’re using Simple Mode, long hold the green observation button and a pop-up menu will appear allowing you to import multiple photos from your camera library. Or, go to your settings and toggle on Advanced Mode, and this menu will appear from a ‘normal’ short tap on the observation button, as well as allowing you to take multiple photos at once for an observation within the app itself
I like the feature to group photos to one organism, but it’s definitely not intuitive. I also wonder how many people are using the original app vs the new app. I’ve ended up using both - the new app doesn’t have some of the same features, and it still has a time bug when uploading RAW photos from ios.
I have not used the new app. (@tiwane this is also why I didn’t respond to your question about pain points…..sorry) it seemed to still be in beta/development mode? I could very much be wrong, and probably am, but it just seemed like it’s had issues. I also wasn’t sure why, in the Apple App Store, it says it takes more data from my phone than the iNat classic app.
INat classic does the basics. Do I wish it did more? Absolutely, I just - I guess I haven’t seen a reason to switch yet. ![]()
Me too. I have yet to figure out how to add multiple photos to an observation in the field with the new iNat app for iOS. I keep trying. I switch to the old app for multiple photo observations.
