Hello everyone, I’m going to New Zealand in December. Do you have any snorkeling spots to recommend on the South Island? Since I’m not very familiar with New Zealand’s marine life, what species should I be wary of? Thank you for your replies.

Since you could be snkleing anywhere in new zealand, expect all answers to be vauge.
In case you don’t get responses here, you could try looking around this project: Marine Life in New Zealand (New project: needs some more work on filters)
This will provide you with concentrations of observations indicating popular locations, a decent impression of species you can find, and usernames of active divers on iNaturalist who you can message for tips.
I suppose cernunosse would be pleased with four or five names of locations dropped.
and a hint which really dangerous animals can be met there.
