Species found in one place, but not in another

I know this question has been asked before, but the threads I’ve found were several years old and didn’t have any useful answers. Is there a way to see a list of species I’ve seen in one location that aren’t found in another location? For example, if I’m from Kentucky and go on vacation to Florida, is there a way to check which of the observations I made in Florida are of species that can’t be found in Kentucky?

I don’t think this is an iNaturalist feature. However, you can probably make a collection project containing the taxa of all the observations you found on a vacation, and compare the ranges with individual species from a different area. This is very much not a solution, and if anything the best thing is to look at the individual ranges of the taxa you’ve found on vacation and look at the map tab of their taxon page to see if their range extends to your home location.

if you trust the Kentucky Checklist, then you could just filter your Florida observations using an additional &not_in_list_id=324 parameter.

if you don’t trust the list, then it gets harder. you could either create your own list of Kentucky species to apply using the parameter noted above, or else you could compare species lists between Kentucky vs your Florida observations, and then use the difference as the basis for selecting only particular taxa from your Florida observations using either a list containing the “difference” species + the &list_id= parameter, or using the &taxon_id= or &exact_taxon_id= parameters and a comma separated list of the “difference” species. there are many ways to get he “difference” depending on exactly how you want to define your comparison sets and how you want to do the comparison.
