Dangerously cute is right!

I have a Canon R10 with a Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM Lens (I have to use the Canon EF to RF adapter as well). For lighting, I have a Godox V860III with a large AK diffuser. It’s not the most magnifying setup, but it’s fairly decent. It’s also pretty heavy, hard to hold with just one hand.

Not a good photo by any means, but here’s a cool Hypogastrura sp. (often called “snow fleas”) I found a couple days ago on a pumpkin (after Halloween I leave pumpkins out in the backyard so animals enjoy them). Anyone else find any cool Winter springtails?

Just started finding them on dead wood. Learning as I go! I need to figure out how to take more clear pics with my new phone.

A townhome I rented had a massive springtail invasion by the windows once - it was like springtail party all over the floor.

Although I have never seen such a remarkable population explosion on top of a mushroom, most of the springtails I have encountered have been associated with mushrooms. If you split a mushroom longitudinally to get more info for a possible ID, now and then there are springtails moving around in the gills. I try to choose a mushroom with an opened cap that is near similar mushrooms–including some that may not have opened yet.

What a great group! Thanks for the initiative! I started getting into springtails last winter and my interest is only growing.

Here are some of my favorites I encountered so far:

This is a rather plain species, but love the color

This might be me favorite one. I think that composition with the slime mold is quite interesting.

What are you guys using as references/identification resources?
I mainly rely on these:

I use Collembola.org, a bunch of pdfs (particularly the massive “Collembola of North America North of the Rio Grande”, 4 volumes), and the helpful info from fellow springtail identifiers!
