So, there have been five uploads of what I believe are Coreopsis hybrids already today. The users of 4 of the 5 have ID’d them incorrectly to species, in some cases to a species which is not even part of the hybrid cross. At this time, I think the only solution is for someone else to go through and mark them as Coreopsis and “cultivated”. The one in Austria looks like an escape (I’m not 100% sure it’s hybrid but I lean that way) and is (appropriately) ID’d to genus only. If I understand correctly, if we were to leave them at non-research grade at the incorrect species then they would affect the suggestions that show up in that area - is that correct?

It definitely would.
I IDed a duck as genus Anas,
the community ID consensus is that it is a hybrid Mallard/Muscovy (Anas platyrhynchos × Carina moschata).
My ID is shown as maverick, because the species isn’t under genus Anas or genus Cairina, but under the genushybrid category for Anas .× Carina
Since that hybrid spans two different genera, I think it’s a different scenario than the types of hybrids discussed here.

Fair enough. I should have paid more attention when a post above mentioned this is a curator concern. :)
From a data management / friendliness to downstream data users viewpoint, it’s better not to stick things that aren’t scientific names into a scientific name field.
