Sunbathing birds

Thank you, I liked that theme and there were no project for it! As about hotspots it’s hard to say, there’re much more observations from USA because the community there is bigger than anywhere else now.

The area where I live has very sandy soil and birds taking dust baths are very common, especially at construction sites! They often leave little pits on the surface of the ground where they have done this. The species around here that sandbathes the most often is Passer domesticus (the European house sparrow).

The amount of sand in my bird baths also testifies to the popularity of this behaviour, especially among robins (Turdus migratorius).
