The lumping of Bison into Bos | Need a TLDR, I also have a question

To my knowledge, through genetic analysis, the genus Bison is now considered invalid by some institutions. As a result it has been lumped into Bos. This may be due to me not being in as many communities as I should, but I haven’t heard that many people talk about it. I am curious what led to this result, and what the counter arguments may be, if there are any.

Pertaining to my question, why is this classification not being used on iNaturalist when other reclassifications have been added relatively quickly? Especially when these findings are upheld by ASM, NatureServe, and GBIF.
