The rewards of planting natives in my yard

It’s only a small bit of progress, but these have been covered in butterflies and insects lately. I’m pretty sure they are New England Aster. I really should keep track of what I plant better.

Of course, the only feeder that really shows up on camera is the big monarch. Trust me though, there are loads more. Especially some small yellow ones.

I love these topics where you talk about what you have been doing in your yard. Keep 'em coming, @mikeschinlaub!

Actually, I was thinking of asking to reopen the original post, and keep it going. It’s sort of fudging the rules a bit, but if people really like reading about it, then I wouldn’t be starting a new thread every time.

Also, I have been planning something else for spring, but haven’t had much time or energy for it lately. Not quite ready to post it though.

Idk if you did this, but I made a list on iNaturalist where I add all the native species I’ve found in my yard. I include native plants I planted as long as they properly rooted and seem to be healthy and I also don’t include things I found dead, but obviously you can use your own rules for your own list. It’s good for me to have a list because sometimes things disappear before I get an observation for them

I believe you. In fact, I’m pretty sure that I see some kind of Fritillary on one of the stems to the left of the Monarch. They’re migrating right now, so I’m sure that your asters are a welcome snack bar.

Looks like the butterflies have moved on. Just a few bees now.
