iNaturalist only lists T. nobilana as the Atlantic torpedo ray, one of the same nine species of Tetronarce as Wikipedia. https://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/607404-Tetronarce
But you can submit observations of the Western Atlantic Torpedo Ray, T. occidentalis,
https://www.inaturalist.org/observations?taxon_id=1136429
even though it is not listed as a recognized species.
Can any identifiers or other experts point me to a reference about the status of T. occidentalis as a distinct species from T. nobiliana?
@clinton ?
The taxon split that created Tetronarce occidentalis in iNat lists Eschmeyer’s Catalog of Fishes as the source.https://researcharchive.calacademy.org/research/ichthyology/catalog/fishcatmain.asp

Thank you! So why doesn’t iNaturalist list occidentalis as one of the species of Tetronarce?
it does, and you already linked to observations of it in your first post:
My question is not answered. Why is T. occidentalis not listed as a species here:
https://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/607404-Tetronarce?
Can you share a screenshot of where you expect to see it but don’t?
