transferring the picture with the black box to the observation in the green box froze the app, the cursor being a hand.
This time right-clicking would not work, so I cannot “inspect” the page
The right hand scroll bar works, but nothing on the page. No grabbing, escaping, or any other fiddle unlocked the app.
Again: the top menu bar and the side edit panel are “gone”
PS: this morning Chrome announced an upgrade with some new features. I had no problems last night.
I’m not able to replicate in either Chrome or Firefox, and I also tried this both when testing out the new mobile layouts, and not testing them. Does this happen regardless of how many photos you have in the uploader? What happens if you only put four there?
I had the exact thing happen to me just now, more than once. For me, when it happens, the whole page freezes and I can’t click on anything until I refresh the screen (which makes bulk uploading basically impossible, because I lose all my work before I can submit it).
Since yesterday I’ve also been having the screen freeze like this on other pages, like while identifying, where having to refresh the page is less troublesome (but still irritating).
I’m using Chrome, too, so maybe this is a problem with the latest Chrome update?
Sometimes on the bulk upload page, I just can’t drag and drop anything at all (the cursor changes to a and I can’t drop anything I’m dragging). This is also fixed by refreshing. (Edit: …but it isn’t consistently fixed by refreshing. Sometimes I have to close the web browser entirely and restart it.)
So far I have not tried this, since it just started happening just now. I’m using the iNat Enhancement Suite and the metadata extension (which is why I’m using Chrome in the first place). Trying it with those turned off is the next step, I expect.
Yes, I was in the Mobile-Friendly Mode test group. I’ve turned that off and now I’m testing it that way (but first I have to process some photos to upload).
After turning off the mobile-friendly test, for a while there I thought it was better (some pages were occasionally freezing, but the uploads worked), but it just happened again. First the controls disappeared, but I could still click on things, and then everything froze.
Same here, I can still scroll up and down but I have to refresh the page to get off the frozen screen and have to start over, yesterday I refreshed the same page 3 times, it eventually worked after I decreased my upload batch from 50 to 40 - that could be coincidence though
I was able to add to my frozen screen upload (second example: with the “hand” cursor) by dropping in another picture - nothing else worked -: changing tabs, any keys or combination of keys.
The picture I was trying to move to the adjacent card, appeared on the bottom of the page after the dropped picture. The menus reappeared, but sadly, the screen stayed frozen. .
When I uploaded my observations, the screen freezes after going through a few observations. It seems to be random, I went through 60 or so yesterday before it froze, but with a different batch today it froze at about 20. What to do? I need to batch upload.
I merged two bug reports, as they seem to be for the same issue, which I still can’t replicate in any browser.
Did you try this, @taylorse? For everyone else, have you tried turning off your extensions or trying another browser? That would be the most helpful thing to know.
Firefox, for example, runs on a different engine than Chrome and Edge to (both use Chromium) so it would be helpful to know if you still see this issue in Firefox.
If you can please open up your browser’s console, then try to replicate the issue, and then share a screenshot of the console once you encounter the issue, that would be helpful as well. The console records errors that might help us track down the cause. In Chrome, go to View → Developer → Javascript Console.
Some extra notes, I also had the issue where I am unable to drag and drop photos to upload them sometimes, and refreshing usually does not fix the issue. Issue still occurs even if I try and only combine 2 observations by dragging and dropping a photo / observation, but does not always happen. I think part of how sporadic the issue is that even if you don’t intentionally combine observations, you may still accidentally hold down the left cursor for a bit long while hovering over an observation and thus freeze the screen. I have no extensions. I did try a bit with chrome but eventually ran into the same issue.
Added a photo of the console, not sure if that’s what is needed? Urgh I’m not good with code or the like. @tiwane
