Disco moth!

Spectacular – literally!

Reminds me of some of the birthday parties that my daughter went to when she was a wee one.

Of course, not to be a party pooper, but if you look at the other obs of this species, it is obviously sparkling because of the electronic flash. If you start to shoot moths (especially with the built-in pop-up camera flash) you’ll soon see this effect on many of them. Not to take away from the sparkle – but it’s not a natural light here.

And yet, a lot of fun!

So… who wants some cake?

Thank you for the explanation!

These are endangered so it was good to see this show up. Just wish they had a more attractive name so people would be more inclined to protect them.

Cute!

I found this chunky little moth quite cute. And, the colors in this butterfly obs were uplifting for me today.

I’ve heard people call squirrels (mostly grey squirrels here) bushy-tailed tree rats. Or, as many have said, squirrels are rats with good PR.

Sadly, any long ‘naked’ tail evokes mostly a strong negative emotion from most people. Not even big eyes or other cute features that may exist seem to be able to reverse the rat-tail revulsion response.

Apparently, there are caddisflies that make casings that look like stone?? The coolest thing ever! https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/262730914
