When (and how) to report a curator?

Hello everyone!

I couldn’t find a previous post or guidelines on this.

Without going into detail that would very much identify the person I’m talking about, I have run many times upon and against a specific curator which general behavior is sometimes against the curator guidelines, consistently against general inat best practices, and sometimes simply rude.

A lot of this is not outright prohibited to do (save for things like making up their own rules for others) but it added up to a degree very difficult to ignore.

This went to the point that I have stopped identifying things in my country for a while just to avoid them.

I have seen there is a “help” email, but I worry about that email falling into said curator’s hands, as I have no idea who monitors it.

With this said, when is the proper break point to report a curator? Which contact channel should I use for this? Is ALL the evidence appreciated, or would “not the best practice” things not be considered?

Thanks in advance!

AFAIK, all flags and their content are visible to all curators if they know where to look, BUT everyone also has a moderation history attached to their profile. Curators can see these, but they cannot see their own moderation history. So I can’t peep at my own, for example, to see if I have any alerts on my profile.

Personally, I’d screenshot any of the offending interactions, send an email to the help email, and note your concerns about them being alerted. Curators are NOT staff, and I do not believe that any curators should have access to that email (though forum staff here might be able to clarify if I am wrong on that point.)

Only staff have access to help@inaturalist.org.

Awesome, thanks, I’m glad my assumption was correct here.
