This seems to be getting further off-topic - nothing about casual/needs id/research grade observations.

Description of problem
What am I missing here?
It’s casual but without reason as far as I can see (has date, media, location)
I was going to try and refresh it by marking as good as it can be temporarily, but that’s greyed out…
I tried voting on another part of the DQA as mentioned here…but that didn’t impact it…
Looks fine to me, not casual at all
Yes nvm! Seems fine now - maybe the DQA ticking fixed it but slowly.
I also didn’t realise
“Evidence related to a single subject” is greyed out generally atm
and that
“Based on the evidence…” is greyed out when there is only one ID now
( not like that before I think (?))
As far as I know, two IDs is always the minimum required for the “Can’t be improved” DQA to be enabled.
Moved the above three posts to this mega topic.
since there is, only one photo.
That DQA is for - picture of dog - picture of a daisy - please split.
No, the dog is not called Daisy.
The greyed out boxes where a DQA is not applicable is a change that was implemented sometime last year: https://forum.inaturalist.org/t/prevent-dqa-voting-when-pre-requisite-conditions-arent-met/49859/ (scroll down to the bottom)
Its only ID’ed to Genus, which means it isnt “ID’ed” yet. This is normal for observations not IDed to species level.
Moved the above two posts to this topic.
And if you’ve seen other observations RG at genus, it’s because someone has ticked ‘can’t be improved’ manually in the DQA.
It’s ID’d at genus and won’t automatically move to RG. If you think that it can’t be ID’d to species from what’s shown in the photo, you can click on “No, it’s as good as it can be” at the bottom of the Data Quality part of the observation. Then it will go to RG. (Only for observations ID’d to genus level or below.)
I think it’s actually anything below family level? Could be wrong, but it’s definitely above genus.
yes this is correct
Thank you, @grampianshiker and @thebeachcomber . I didn’t know that.
Why is this observation Casual? https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/92112194
Someone checked that the ID could not be improved, but that should cause it to be RG at genus level, not Casual. There are a large amount of observations with the same problem. I experimented on a different one; adding an ID at species level caused it to be RG at species level, and withdrawing that ID sent it to Needs ID. The ‘cannot be improved’ checkbox was then unavailable. Is this problem somehow caused by a rule change about the checkbox?
The Community taxon and Observation Taxon must agree for the observation to be Research Grade.
FWIW it’s at RG now, I’ve added a species ID. I think those original two IDs and the DQA vote were made before Pseudacris species were lumped.
This observation is marked as Casual, when it meets all the requirements for a research grade observation outlined here: https://help.inaturalist.org/en/support/solutions/articles/151000169936-what-is-the-data-quality-assessment-dqa-and-how-do-observations-qualify-to-become-research-grade-
It says "community agrees on an ID between family and species and votes" which to me means that Family is good enough for Research Grade. In this case I think it should be, as I think this is an important interaction observed.
