Widget logo filename keeps changing (and breaking)

I thought I had seen this brought up before, but couldn’t find it when I searched, so apologies if this has already been addressed.

I use the iNaturalist widget on my site (wordpress) to display recent observations. I get the code for it via the link on the right side of my dashboard page (which leads here)

Periodically I notice the iNaturalist logo is showing up as a broken link. When this happens, I re-copy and paste the widget code into my site, and that fixes the issue.

It’s not a huge deal, but it is an inconvenience that doesn’t seem to be necessary. (At least I can’t think of a good reason why the logo file name would need to change periodically.)

I could fix this for myself by saving the logo to my own site and updating the widget code accordingly, but I’m guessing this is an issue for others as well, so I thought I would mention it here.

As an example, the last time I updated the widget (I think within the last month or so), the logo address was: https://www.inaturalist.org/assets/logo-small-7ef4973e4a8dc5ab069b36f32258a3e8.png

The current address is: https://www.inaturalist.org/assets/logo-small-3cbb70240b967f0767d5868146f127186b6e826197dae05beaa7158241d9510c.png

I am curious if there’s a reason the logo address is being changed in a way that breaks the image on the widget - or if I’m just doing something strange and others aren’t experiencing this.

that’s an odd feature. i wonder why that extra sequence of noise after the core logo filename exists?

i guess you could always change the code that the widget generator provides you to reference https://www.inaturalist.org/assets/logo-small.png, which i assume will be more long-lived than the other thing.

Yes - the random noise there on the filename puzzled me as well. I hadn’t realized the shortened name would work. Presumably that’s what should show up in the generated widget code to start with, but it (apparently) never has for me.
