So far I am obsessed with observations but am willing to become an obsessive identifier but only plants, please, ok, and a handful of birds.

That’s the lovely thing: you can pick what you’re comfortable with / what dings your chimes. Welcome to the Forum! (And to iNat, if you just set up your account there.)

You know that you’re obsessed with identifying when you go to look at the most common Odonata species in the US for a project, realize that there are a whole bunch of really weird vagrants at the bottom of the list, and decide to take on cleaning them out.

(I may not know what kind of dragonfly is in that photo, but it’s not hard to figure out that if the species the photographer decided on is restricted to the area around Kazakhstan, it’s probably not going to show up for a photo op in New Jersey!) 🤨

When you click an obs. to refine the id and you see you had already identified it (disagreeing id). Happens over and over again, even right now.

Whenever you add an identification to an observation, it is automatically marked as Reviewed. On both the Identify and Explore pages, there’s a filter you can set for the Reviewed status. If you search for “Reviewed = No”, you should never have to waste time looking at an observation you’ve already dealt with.

You can also manually set Reviewed (one observation at a time, or a whole page at a time on the Identify page) for any other observations you don’t want to see again.

Sometimes you go back to observations you have already reviewed because you have learned more since then and want to give a finer identification than before

I am not obsessed with identification at all. When I can’t figure it out in a week I just leave it (until I run into the same observation later)
