Your best photos of the week!

You know how I said I’d go with the snapper unless I found something better? Um, so, funny story actually, I found a hummingbird. And I got some really nice photos of it because it let me get so close and it was sunny, which made for a high shutterspeed. Then some wrens scared it away. So here’s one of the best pics:

Here is the link to the observation so you can see all the other photos in all their glory, and hear the story of how exciting this was for me:

Oh boy. (Gulp)

Sure, that’s okay. I just hope it doesn’t go to my head or interfere with my personal life, like the last contest I won ….

“Hello?”

“Helloooo! Bob? It’s Scarlett Johansson calling, again and –”

“Look Ms. Johansson, as I already told you, AND Ms. Daddario, and those others, I am NOT interested in going to Hollywood or any place else, or for you to visit here. No! Nyet! Nein! Plese, stop calling, texting etc. Thank you and goodbye!”

I stayed at a place recently that had this charming set go by around twice a day.

The goldenrod in our yard has attracted such a wide variety of pollenators.

This visitor, a Summer Azure, allowed me to get up close for some cellphone shots

Took this quite awhile ago, not the best candidate to get me off my last place streak but this is my favorite bee so I thought I’d share. A northern rotund resin bee (Anthidiellum notatum), a vespoid wasp mimic. I think they look adorable, trying to look like a wasp but they are just too small lol. A rare sight for me unfortunately, only seen this one this year.

I’d like to thank all the little people involved, but…

I didn’t see any so I’ll just thank the little creatures instead.

Thanks everyone for the votes. I think I’ll graciously bow out of this thread now with my unblemished score. Cheers.

Not an image, but a couple GIFs from two observations. I really like how the blotch is a pulsing individual identifier.

How do you make a GIF for iNat?

@charonbaron At least a couple years. I play with it every once it a while, like this one from last year.

@mkanimallover I use https://imgflip.com/ but there are other GIF makers.

Oh, cool! Thanks for sharing!

Oh wow, I tried it like a year ago and it didn’t work for me, but I guess I just butchered the file conversion then… Thanks for sharing, I’ll try imgflip next time then :)

Well, here’s a photo of a juvenile Dolomedes triton found on a rock surrounded by water. Definitely could be better, but still nice to have a photo of one!

Yeah, lol. Was actually pretty cooperative compared to the other fishing spiders I’ve photographed before. Actually, I wasn’t even searching for these, rather on springtails, but forgot to bring vials for collecting them, so had to find something else to photograph. This was found in a nice little sandy/rocky shoreline of a small pond. Was an absolutely amazing area, with some nice species of frogs, springtails, spiders, etc.
