what is this?
We have a poll whenever we can for the best photos we took!!
Sharing two beautiful beings to start the year:
Fringilla canariensis which can only be found in the Canary Islands although not as famous as its yellow friend.
And also a mushroom (Mycena) because not only is the season but they don’t get the representation they deserve here
. Imagine how tiny crawlers would look at these giants and yet so easy to miss for us.
I’m sharing as well the habitat where I found both of them because it’s one of my absolute favourite forests and I find interesting to share the context as well as the subject, what do you think?

I think it is beautiful!! And technically, you could still submit it as an observation, for the ferns or the trees.
It’s been 27 days since I’ve last added a photo, wow, it’s been a while! Well, here is a pretty bad photo to be honest, but at least the springtail is beautiful! A springtail (yep, that’s what everything is going to be now) of the genus Lepidocyrtus. These are notoriously difficult to get to species with microscopy, and my past experiences with the genus have certainly shown this. Someday I’ll manage to key one to species!
I would vote for myself if it wasn’t such a bad pic. LOL
Ooooh, I love the “atmosphere” of this one. Wonderful capture!
Very nice color scheme
I love the contrast between the sapphire blue and russet brown!!
Thanks everyone, it’s hard to find any color in a Maine January. ![]()
That forest looks beautiful! Maybe one day I’ll try to visit it!
Thanks for the polls! You really killed it with that wolf :)
Also thank you (and everyone else) for keeping this thread alive, this is one of my favorite online-places these days ![]()
Here’s a Black-billed Magpie I photographed in Spokane, WA last week!
Wow, those greens in the wings are gorgeous!
This egret devouring a lizard (only noticed this a day after the photo was took)
And this snoozing seal. ![]()
It looks a lot like the European Magpie! Nice colors and even cooler shot! I’m still practising the flying bird shots :)
Fluffy Birb time!
