Your best photos of the week!

Great shot, even if a bit brutal

Saw this adorable juvenile turkey vulture over the weekend, I’ve never seen a young one before!

Wow! I’ve never seen a juvenile Turkey Vulture before! That’s so cool. It kind of makes me wonder how many juveniles I’ve misidentified as black vultures.

I never had either! I was kind of torn in that direction at first, because we don’t routinely have black vultures in our area but it does happen occasionally (there was a big frenzy in the local birdwatching scene when a group of them were spotted hanging out a couple years back). I had to look up a lot of photos of juvie TVs to convince myself that’s still what I was seeing haha.

Melanoplus I tried to pick up but was too jumpy.

Ooo, thats a cool shot! How high was your shutter speed for this?

Saw a wood duck for the first time! They’re as pretty as everyone always said

Not @cooldood, but I’ve been able to get shots like this with a shutter speed of 300 to 400, asuming that the f-stop is set properly.

A lot of times, though, I’ll set my camera for Burst (or Sports) mode, and let the in-camera software handle the settings. Part of that is because Burst can dial down to a wider stop than I can set manually, so it’s also a trick that I use for low-light shooting.

Got this photo of a Bobcat in my front yard this morning (October 1) about 11:00. https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/405039120

Shout out to the OM TG-7 waterproof compact that was recommended to me on this forum. Great snorkelling camera.

Thanks for this appreciation, Tony! The iNat Forum can be a great resource for those who participate. Great photo!

Wow, what a beauty!

Yeah, catching it in that stalking posture was really fortunate!

What did it have its eye on?

A squirrel.

Went to the Toledo Zoo this week and saw some amazing animals. What was probably my best photo is of this Superb Starling (Lamprotornis superbus) in an open room where they are free to fly around.

Superb!

I upgraded my camera this weekend and I’m very pleased! All these photos were taken with an ISO between 3200 and 4000.

A Wilson’s warbler! I don’t know why, but I love them so much. Amazing photos!
