That’s cool! FWIW the way I (and I presume others) imagined it working if you weren’t on the right tab was that using the hot key would itself navigate you to where you were making the change. I agree it would be bad not to have visual feedback.

Allow J and K to replicate left and right keys to move next and previous observation? I find it annoying to keep jumping to the arrow keys on my keyboard.
