I spent much too much time yesterday reading this topic as well as the Are there too many observations topic. I used to do some identifying last year until I realized just how many similar species are out there. That knowledge threw me off my game and sucked away my confidence to make IDs.
This thread inspired me to try IDing some Unknowns yesterday. I ended up spending the rest of the day doing that. It’s already helped me learn about taxa I’m weak on, and has boosted my IDing mojo.
How nice it was to open iNat this morning to find that some of those Unknown observations that I worked on yesterday have already reached Research Grade.
