Oh that’s really cool!
Hey all! I love keeping an eye on this thread. I got the annotating bug last summer and have’t looked back.
Thought I’d share my Leps life stage annotation workflow and maybe it’ll be helpful to someone.
I see a lot of people talk about the keyboard shortcuts and while they do help a lot I find them to be not very ergonomic. So I remapped the keys (L and A) to the arrow keys (up and down) and it is so much easier for me, up arrow = L, down arrow = A, and the right and left arrow keys make it easy to flip between obs. I use a Macbook and they don’t have local key remapping (or it’s not very good) so I used [Karabiner-Elements](https://karabiner-elements.pqrs.org/), highly recommend, very easy to set up and switch between regular and iNat keyboards.
The last thing i’ll add is to change up your workflow every so often. It helps me stay interested and makes it more fun :)
Thanks for all the work y’all do!
Norah
Nice Norah! Thanks for the tips.
To add to yours, I often choose three or four to focus on for a bit. I take a screenshot of the life stage charts (or whatever annotation I’m doing) and save a link to the filtered Identify page. That way I can check on how much I’ve done, and I find it really motivating. I love seeing the physical change to the charts! (Such a nerd, I know…)
Here’s another one: add the " Seasonal fur coat" field to observations of hares, foxes, weasels that change color for winter. Choices are Summer (all brown): Winter (all white); in-between (patchy).
Snowshoe hare
White-tailed jackrabbit
Mountain hare
Japanese hare
Arctic hare
Long-tailed weasel
Arctic fox
Stoat / ermine
Ooh, a chance to comb through photos of these beauties - yes please ![]()
For other annotators: warning: there are a few dead creatures that haven’t been marked as dead, so if that is a problem for you, don’t do this one. Also, you can’t filter for observation fields, so you will come across observations already done.
