Normal is a myth
I had a friend chuckle when he asked what we were doing⌠had him join us on the back porch watching hummingbirds at the feeders.
He was astounded by them and their behaviors.
He went home with a hummingbird feeder!
I never have. People see my lugging my camera with a huge telephoto lens through the woods, and they know I am a birder. They might ask me if I have seen anything that day, and enjoy showing them pictures. I have always been received well. It is a great conversation starter.
I am normal, but everyone else is abnormal.
So say we all!
Real!
Robert Owen 1771â1858. Welsh-born socialist and philanthropist. All the world is queer save thee and me, and even thou art a little queer .
My street is not really interested in anything to do with nature (other than maiming pigeons, I guess). So when I spend an hour or two staring at a tree, I do get some weird looks. Luckily no oneâs dared make fun of me (yet). If they do, then a heavy bird identification book makes a good weapon.
What if the birds donât approve of random strangers taking their photos without asking? Lol.
Thatâs definitely true â I am also studying entomology, but I get more respect since I am coaching my schoolâs science Olympiad team. Itâs disappointing to see the hatred many people have for insects (and other hexapods, arachnids, myriapods, etc).
I agree! It gets on my nerves a lot when people irrationally fear or hate insects or spiders.
Some sources say itâs because of the fast movement of many insects and how they look very different from us humans. Itâs also probably because of the primordial fear humans generally share, as a few bugs can bite or sting. But really, most are harmless, which many people arenât aware of or refuse to acknowledge. By the way, isopods are awesome. Easily one of my favorite terrestrial arthropods. :)
