Well, it never occurred to me I might be creating a common name and I had a good laugh thinking about people calling it that throughout their life. :-)
This is very helpful. Thank you. I just need a sentence or two that I can use that I know is also accurate. Since I’m more of a “recreational” naturalist rather than a “schooled” naturalist (although, I have been schooled by lots of experts willing to share with me along the way), I work really hard to try and be sure I’m giving out accurate information during my talks. Thank you.
Don’t count the Bronto out of the game. Some intense paleo-detective work has been done on relavant fossils (quite a bit of it by the director of the Morrison Natural History Museum, a local hidden gem), and it looks like declaring the Thunder Lizard to be a non-entity was a bit … deceptive.
That’s the spirit! Taxonomy may not be a democracy, but language is :-)
