Human Observations in Schools

Just for reference, iNaturalist received >142k verifiable observations yesterday alone

During CNC, when there may be more human observations due to the type of submissions received, there were >800k verifiable observations some days.

iNaturalist users/submissions continue to increase.

is not a viable approach for a small group of volunteer curators at this scale.

Wow, that’s crazy. I knew there are a lot more posters than staff or identifiers, but that’s insane. Really helps give a scale of your workload.

Tangential idea, maybe there should be a running counter on the forum home page showing how many obs there have been . Daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, and total to date?

I think that’s supposed to be OUR workload.
I know I need to help more.

Just a heads-up that if anyone has time, you can go through observations using the Identify page and help with identification, even if you’re not an expert. It can be pretty satisfying, even for a few minutes a day.

I’ve got a few bookmarks for different Identify searches that I like to look in on each day.

Time to reshare the link to the research done on iNat’s identifiers
That info only runs to 2021 - but obs have exploded since then. I would like to see a more recent update?

25% of IDs made by 130 users (think about the impact if one of those - takes um - and deletes their profile)

50% by 545 - which is still daunting versus one MILLION obs on one of the CNC days.

Who has cleared the Unknown backlog for their preferred CNC location?
CNC projects are mostly 30 to 40% RG - so plenty of Needs ID queued up. But they vary between 4 (! for the ‘winner’) and nearly 60 for Graz.
