The popular claim is that ChatGPT uses half a litre of water for every 20-50 queries it responds to. In comparison, there’s a similarly famous estimate that it takes about 4 litres to grow a single almond.
That’s not entirely fair as my understanding is that almonds are a particularly water-hungry crop, but my point is that we probably underestimate the amount of water and energy that a lot of our regular activities require.
