Link observations

I personally don’t mind adding host plant observations, but no one should be required to. Also, it’s a multi-step process to add links to other observations. If you submit both observations at the same time, you have to save them, then go to each one’s “Edit” page and add Notes with a link to the other. It’s tedious if you have to do it multiple times, so it definitely doesn’t make sense for anyone who uploads a lot of plant parasite observations.

I’ve wondered about a feature that would allow linking in at time of uploading a batch of observations. I too find it a bit of a nuisance to have to go back and add the Linked Observation annotation once I’ve submitted the batch. It’d be kind of nice of these could be filled in automatically.

Here’s what I have in mind. It would optionally fill in the Linked Observation for just the observation selected first (green outline here) or also fill in a reciprocal Linked Observation for the observation selected second (charcoal outline).

This time I happen to want a link also from the leafminer to the plant.

I’m only barely getting the hang of the batch edit feature, so there may be a way to streamline the operation there, but if so, it’s not obvious to me.
