Macro without Diffuser?

You can try a bounce card that straps on to the flash also. More stable than that elastic diffuser.

I did this for years - it can be challenging if the lens has too large a diameter or if the flash is a very tall mounted unit. But otherwise it works pretty well and takes up no space at all.

Try a sheet of the flexible expanded plastic that comes in packaging. Cut it to size, with a hole to fit your lens. That way its easy to pack, and you can put it on/remove it, or swing it out of the way easily. If it’s not enough diffusion, cut two and stack them up, it’s so cheap and easy you can afford to play around with them. And if you break or lose it, it’s increidbly easy to replace.
I did this to save money over a cygnus etc, and because i’m using the built in pop up flash rather than external, but honestly, I like it a lot and it’s so much easier to carry over rougher ground.

I’m currently not using the macro lens at all.
