I think my suggestion above would solve your problem. You would be able to filter the NeedsID pile by ‘captive/cultivated’, and those that had not received enough verification would be there instead of in casual. The only captive/cultivated observations in casual would be those that had received the same level of verification as a research grade observation.
Those who are not interested in captive/cultivated could simply filter the NeedsID pile for wild observations (which I presume would also be the default). Those who don’t care about the distinction should be able to include both.
My suggestion essentially makes ‘casual’ a research grade for captive observations. If you want to see these without the other stuff that piles up in casual, the ‘Casual’ pile can be filtered in the same way.
