Make "Observations Nearby" circle smaller

I usually change the URL from 50 to 0.5 when I click that link.

That’s great! So it should be quite straightforward to alter the code and add a select element next to the link, with a dropdown list of reasonable values! or almost as easy to have a textbox instead of the select to manually enter a value for the radius (just add some JS to check the value).

BTW, sorry to digress but I have the exact same problem with the size of the area of “obscured” coordinates, currently it’s 0.2° lat/long diagonal (?), the new location is often on the other side of a border or mountain! Before adding a new separate request, does anyone know if it has been requested already, I couldn’t find a request in this forum with a basic search…

I want to explain my use case of the ‘nearby’ circle:
Almost exclusively, I use this feature when I notice a possible class assignment, where dozens of observations of the same planted city tree or other cultivated plants in a school yard are to be expected.
I can then easily narrow down the circle to the area of interest and go over to the ID tool to provide IDs and mark the relevant observations as ‘not wild’

Yes, sorry, per previous requests the size of the obscuration won’t be changed.

It’s OK, I see Gbif has now smartly solved this issue of obscured locations wrongly assigned to neighbouring countries!

I want to see wat was seen in the neighbourhood (1km, 1000m) and/or if that/mine species has been seen before. I Never use the compare tool, 50km is way to far, 1-3km will do.

Never knew one could adjust RADIUS parameter

I’m going to decline this request. The circle size is easily changable both in the URL or directly on the map and any default size is not going to suit every purpose.
