Finally someone who understands me!!
This meme is actually inspired by me forgetting fixing some bugs in the bioblitz I created:
https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/2025-bird-big-year-bioblitz, and the old obs that needed fixing: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DEP-9t-OHpN/?igsh=eXdreWhlejB4YWpw
Are we allowed to post memes that we made? I hope so. Here are two that I made just the other week. I have a third one that I made a few years ago, but it’s not on this pc, so it might take me a bit to hunt down.
But towhees are cute!
If you’re declaring things as species, you are practicing taxonomy. You just might not be very good at it.
Yes! They really are!
Don’t worry. I actually adore them in real life and I always enjoy watching them whenever I’m lucky enough to cross paths with them.
. . . those posters are clearly jokes.

It’s accurate as a satire of public perception of these species, and highlights how biased many people’s views are on these insects
Wasps also only sting people for defense (yes, some are really aggressively defensive, but so are some bees), and wasps also pollinate
That said, the political comments really don’t belong and don’t make a lot of sense, even in the context of satirizing public perception of the insects
I’ve been stung by so few wasps, even while doing macro of Pompilids etc, and the sensation of a Polistes sting doesn’t last more than 30 seconds. And yet ~each year I get stung by a honey bee, and I get a massive swollen leg/arm/face that lasts for several days.
Nonetheless, it would be a nonsense if I tried to characterise bees as horrible and wasps as gentle; they are each just doing what they do. Social insects have much more resources to lose and each individual becomes respectively less ‘important’, and so they’re more happy to YOLO it against you., They are all acting in their ‘own’ best interest, entirely amorally.
