Another one is that very rare exceptions do not belong in taxon photos. Normal variation, yes. Rare exceptions that most people will never ever see, no.

For example, I think it’s probably helpful to have one Northern Cardinal with no feathers on its head in the 12 photos, because that is a weird exception that frequently stumps people trying to make an ID. But a completely yellow Northern Cardinal is so outrageously rare that it’s just a curiosity, not something people need help identifying.

…yes, I did remove a yellow cardinal from the taxon photos once. I also removed an all-white Red-tailed Hawk the other day. :sweat_smile: It was cool! It just wasn’t helpful for identifiers.

I’ve been involved in an edit war over something similar a few months ago.
Red fox is called “red fox” because most individuals are red, not black ;) (users kept putting unusual coats as the default for mammals, including red fox)
