Open letter of apology for once being a reckless user

I usually just whip out the editing on my photos and draw an arrow or circle or something. I get why people would be hesitant, but my mentality is that if I know what it is, no matter how bad the picture is, it’s going to go up, because it’s there. Worst case scenario, I can remove the picture and it’s still valid because I know what I saw. That’s the main thing I like about using the app for uploading observations - I can edit on my phone, and I can do it fast.

i haven’t gotten into doing that because i don’t usually haev time and am not very fast at it but i like the idea of it. If it were possible within the iNat website i’d do it more. For whatever reason doing so on the phone doesn’t work well with current workflow

I very rarely have access to a laptop or computer anymore, so I’ve gotten pretty fast on the phone. That’s definitely due to my work too, so it’s all relative. It was worth suggesting though, in case it was something that would work for you.

no, i think it’s a good idea! i just haven’t really done much with that stuff. I always take photos directly into the app and so i can’t edit once they are in the observation and I’d have to edit another one. Really, there are a ton of different ways to use iNat and lots of people have figured out different workflows.

All is forgiven. Thanks for sharing this, as I think it’s caused a lot of people to reflect in a positive way. We’re all learning here. :grinning:

Nobody said it, other than me. I think I included that I do that somewhere in the comments here. There’s a lot of comments though, so couldn’t tell you where. But, yes, I do this a lot, especially with my kids. But I’d be a liar if I said I don’t also just do it out of my own curiosity sometimes too.
