Should we be training an AI model that will put us out of work?

Translator here. In my language pairs, we’ve had neural machine translation technology since 2017. Between 2017 and 2022, the market size for translation services in the US increased by an average of 7.0% year-on-year (IBIS World). Of course, that growth was impacted by the pandemic; otherwise, it would have been higher. I suspect you will be just fine as a taxonomist. Of course, if we had universal basic income, we could target our translation or taxonomy efforts towards the most meaningful goals, but that’s a different discussion.
