Almost every single thread the OP begins leads to exactly the same point: the idea that iNaturalist should begin a market based system wherein donations are tied to particular user actions.

voting by its nature solely looks at the breadth of support. donating, on the other hand, looks at breadth and depth.

the issue is, if there are too many completely ungraded quizzes, then maybe intrinsic motivation isn’t cutting it. maybe there’s a reason why real teachers have to be paid to grade quizzes all day. i’m not saying that we should be paid, but it’s entirely possible that inat is greatly underestimating the usefulness of extrinsic motivation.

let me try to put it as simply as possible. with my proposal, we’d have the option to know which organisms inat donors were most interested in.

imagine a fundraiser for inaturalist where donors can help rank movies. which movie would be at the top of the list? if you hadn’t already watched it, would you?

Finally, I’ll just say that the donation-based system your proposing is not something that iNaturalist will likely do, for the many reasons that have been espoused here.
