attribution isn’t part of copyright. it’s a license term. you can license your copyrighted work for others to use in exchange for attribution.
if you have no copyright to begin with, a person can use your work more or less however they like. so they don’t need to attribute the work to you from a legal perspective.
however, if they’re, say, writing an academic paper, academic standards will still require them to cite your work in their paper, and the citation will provide attribution.
