One idea that might work as part of a make-shift light trap is to use a portable folding music stand as a base:
It would let you drape or clip fabric – an old t-shirt, pillow covers, etc. – to the top part (it even comes with prongs that are used to keep sheet music in place), position a light source on the ‘shelf’ portion or hang it underneath, and adjust the height fairly easily. And it breaks down into two pieces that you can fold up for easy transportation.
