As in “they exist, I had an apparition” or as in super/extra-natural entity, and as none with scientific proof?
None. Cyptids are folklore by definition. I absolutely believe there are species yet to be discovered, but not from folklore.
I personally think that there’s a connection between Washington’s sea eagle and the native american legend of the thunder bird. Whether it is its own species or a rare hybrid or something else I don’t know
Obviously take this with the grain of salt.
My great uncle was on a lake with a friend near sunset. When they came back they both told the same story about will-o-the-wisp or some sort of floating blue spheres over the water they both say the same story over 30 years later.
(It should be send that my great uncle is still vary mentally stable, and is a vary sincere and respectful man.)
Ball lightning?
will-o-the-wisp is a real phenomenon thought to be caused by chemiluminescence and/or spontaneous combustion of gases produced by decaying organic matter is wetlands https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Will-o'-the-wisp#Natural_explanations
However the exact mechanism is uncertain as loss of wetland habitat has made it rarer in modern times
Interestingly I cannot find a single good photo of this online, all I get are lens flare, video of lighter fluid in a hole in the ground burning, old drawings and one low quality photo from Uruguay that does not match the description of this
I think the amount of light pollution in the world nowadays also makes this harder to spot, but it should be observable because remote swamps still exist
I absolutely love cryptid stories! The more bizarre, the more interesting I find them.
I would like to believe that every cryptid story has some smidgeon of truth behind it, but the cryptids I believe most likely to exist are Bigfoot (aka, Sasquatch), Mokele-Mbembe, Bunyip, and maybe the New Jersey Devil (possibly an excaped kangaroo).
Yes, I think this accounts for many “alien” sightings near water.
I think it accounts for wispy sightings and some reports of mysterious lights, but those reports where a more defined craft was seen likely have another explanation
Imo the most believable cryptids are ones that would be found in the deep ocean, where it’s quite easy for things to hide, even big things. Stuff like Bigfoot I remain very skeptical of, I don’t see how it’s possible for something as big as Bigfoot is purported to be to elude anyone with a decent camera for so long, especially in a developed country like the US.
I do enjoy cryptid stories of all types though
Airplane, hallucination, hoax. I am a firm skeptic of those kinds of UFOs and I will remain so unless I get some real proof.
Imo the best explanation for UFO’s is easily unknown manmade aircraft/drones, such as possibly unusual military aircraft whose existence is officially kept secret. Idk why everybody immediately jumps to aliens
I’m not saying they are aliens, I have yet to hear any convincing evidence for alien visitation, even the most credible reports of unknown high tech aircraft are more likely to be hostile military/spy aircraft than aliens
Basically anything that can be built is more plausible to be built by humans in secret as opposed to built and then operated light years away from its origin
Especially when we know that militaries fly around other countries to test their airspace, this seems like a better explanation of those few sightings where balloons and known aircraft are ruled out
I have similar doubts, although I think something like bigfoot did exist at some. My guess is that they have died out by now and the recent supposed “sightings” are usually hoaxes.
Well we do know the giant ape Gigantopithecus existed at some point, that could potentially have looked like the popular description of Bigfoot, and I guess it’s not too far fetched that some of these could have lingered in remote areas into semi-modern times. However, if they were still around in a place like North America it’s pretty inconceivable that no one has managed to get a decent photo of one
The flying rods exist, because they’re moths.
Mokele Mbembe isn’t impossible.
Recently my street has been rumored to have a dark ghost roaming around. It is roughly the size of a 11 yr old, and has one bright glowing eye. This cryptid most definitely exists…
Because it was me and camera’s flashlight, searching for moths and inspecting a butterfly pupa!
I’m not saying that I am a dark ghost, because I’m not. Trust me. I am most definitely a human . I mean, do ghosts have Inat accounts?
Just out of curiosity, why do you think it isn’t possible for Mokele-Mbembe to exist?
