Why is inat so inconsistent with paraphyletic groupings that are still useful to have

That would be nice, and for those who might not be familiar with previous discussions just a pointer that there is a feature request for this that you can vote for if you agree.

I’ve seen a version of this revised taxonomy which elevates turtles and lepidosaurs and possibly crocodilians but can’t find the reference right now. But there is no consensus on how to taxonomically revise these groups, so the traditional arrangement of Reptilia and Aves as classes will likely continue for some time. I’m not proposing that iNat change anything.
