Certainly. Systematics and taxonomy are so intertwined and so often done by the same people that they frequently are given the same definition in reference books.

My plant taxonomy professor said to me, “If your comfortable with the names of plants, then you’re not up-to-date.” :) Taxonomy isn’t a stagnant field – and it shouldn’t be! All natural history collections (physical and digital) are constantly changing along with our understand. It’s great – and well worth a bit of discomfort. :)
