You Know You Really Love Entomology When:

when u rear the human botfly larva u managed to acquire (but then pin it after it ecloses)

When you can tell apart a hoverfly and a beefly without taking 10 seconds of unblinking staring(yes finnally)

When you place on the leaderboards of scioly entomology nationals(i want to :D)

When you can’t bring yourself to stop petting a lil snout moth even though you know the powder is basically fiberglass

When your friend slaps a fly and you lecture him/her on chironomidaes but he/she replies, “looked like a mosquito” *shrug. (erm actually there ment to resemble sandflies)

When you have predaceous diving beetles in a fish tank instead of fish even though you like water scavenger beetles more

When the western yellow jackets start avoiding you from repeated dissection of their workers.(they swarm me whnever i hav food)

When you can hold ground beetles while they squirt their substance at your face

When you can hold crane fly larvae without feeling disgust.(i feel disgust)

Have a good day :D

Wow! That is quite the list! And welcome to the forum!

Tell us more. How mature was it when you acquired it? How did you rear it?

idk. you can find basically almost any fly larvae either buried in the mud(crane fly) or in some fruit tree i guess.

Thanks. I read over breakfast. I have only seen the ones that breed in horses.

I had some stink bugs lay eggs on my balcony at some point. I didn’t witness their hatching :frowning: but the lil newborn stinkbugs were super cute. (maybe they laid eggs bc of the red beans? idk)

Red beans…hm, interesting! Were you growing them?

yea  tomatoes now. Im going for blueberries bc the local butterflies love them (and the cabbage whites sometimes)

How cool! I have blueberries as well, but they haven’t attracted much besides bumblebees and paper wasps (Who like the wood support frames!!).
By the way, I’m just letting you know in case you didn’t notice, your profile kind of suggests that you might lick bugs? Just in case you want to change it

meh i dont rlly care. the other day i found these lil hoverflies hanging out near a bluberry plant. I think if you let the aphids take over, they come over and start chiling.(along w/ lacwings, some wasps, and the occasional lady bug :D)

Yeah! I’ve seen all of those at mine (Since the blueberries are sandwiched between two crape myrtle trees, which are COVERED in aphids, and subsequently, ladybugs, lacewings and assassin bugs, as well as some paper wasps who enjoy the wooden support beams. Pretty cool what you can find in your own backyard!
