chlorophilia
Ecologist by day, naturalist by night. I have been studying British Columbia’s biodiversity since 2007, with a focus on the semi-Mediterranean ecosystems of the southern Gulf Islands. Currently I am pursuing an MSc at the UVic School of Environmental Studies exploring the implications of seasonal drought for plant and pollinator communities in this region. My interests in natural history vary widely, from evolutionary biology to phenology, and were first inspired by an apprenticeship to lichenologist Trevor Goward.
I curate the Biodiversity Galiano project (www.biogaliano.org) and am currently working on a broader research initiative to network biodiversity projects throughout the Salish Sea bioregion. Beyond natural history, I am particularly interested in data science and the challenges of ensuring the relevance of biodiversity research to stewardship practice in this globally precious bioregion, where so much lies in the hands of private land owners.
