I’m a lover of nature in general, and would call myself a generalist. I post photos of almost anything living, although I do lean forward fauna. Animal behavior is of particular interest, even in the insect world where social insects tend to exhibit more varied behaviors.

I live near a set of ponds, and having just lived hear a year now, much of my focus this past year was on the ducklings and goslings and their mothers. We had three Canada goose families call this home last year, two of which nested here, and one that walked here are a few weeks of age from a nearby lake.

Bullfrogs control thee ponds, in very large numbers, despite being preyed upon by diving ducks, Great Blue herons, and North American River Otters that come to visit at times. The ponds have Brown Bullhead catfish, Signal crayfish, and Northwestern Salamander larva, at least these are the species I’ve seen pulled-up by the predators just listed. Oh, the ponds also have Red-eared (Pond) Sliders, although I’ve not yet seen a heron or other predator take one. (I’d really like to know where the juvenile sliders are hanging out… it seems I only ever see much more mature subjects. I have seen three nests, although two were evacuated, both of which I saw the mothers appearing to be laying eggs.

I’ve been watching Northern Barred Owls for years, and finally spotted a couple here after hearing the telltale alarm calls from crows and smaller songbirds.
