I enjoy being outside in nature. I enjoy hiking and being in somewhat remote places. I live 10 minutes from Saguaro National Park East here in Tucson.
My wife is an active birder and I have taken up photography so that we have something to do together in retirement. I enjoy birding too but also the challenge of enjoy the challenge of photographing birds; I appreciate their color and the great variety found among birds and all living things.
This summer I did a study on my own of the desert purple martin here at Saguaro National Park East, posting my observations to iNaturalist. I focused on one specific saguaro cactus where they were nesting and was there often at sunrise to photograph them. I learned a lot about their behavior and also a lot about photographing wildlife in low light. I am planning on studying them again when they return from Brazil next May.
I recently purchased a macro lens and I am looking forward to photographing smaller organisms. I like the color, beauty and details of smaller things in our world.
