3 observations of the same insect(literally), but one is dated 10 years differently?

Hi all!

So here are the three observations. The situation is weird but it appears that these people all observed the same individual together on 22nd of September, 2024; and each posted an observation. I do believe they were all there as there was a huge raptor watching activity that day and i recognize the names. But while i’m already unclear on the subject of different people posting the same individual(with almost the same photo) on iNaturalist, one of the observations having the date 30th of March, 2014 really has me confused!

I’m posting this here because i don’t really know what would be the right thing to do while following iNaturalist rules… Should anything even be done? I will be asking the people in question but i wanted to get some insight. Thanks in advance.

If you think with good reason that a date is grossly inaccurate, in the ‘Data Quality Assessment’ part you can click the thumb down next to “Date is accurate”.

Probably just a mistake. I would ask the person who posted the observation about it.

As far as I’m aware, this is perfectly fine.

It is the date in the photo’s metadata: the camera’s clock is probably not set correctly.

That makes so much sense, i have no idea why i didn’t just do that! I will still ask the person in question but for the time being this appears to be the right choice. Thanks a bunch!

I removed the links to the observations. I know no malice was intended, but we ask people to not share specific observations if they’re asking about potential misbehavior. It’s OK to post links to specific observations for technical questions, though.
